“Today we are asking for one person, Barack Hussain Obama, to be the
eyes, ears, hopes and fears of a trillion people who are yet to be
born. People are looking to this one man to guide us through the desperate
environmental and social mess we have got ourselves into.

But, however inspirational the new President of the United States may be,
he is only one vulnerable man. It is therefore for each of us to listen
and share the fears of our children’s children and act to save them as
well as ourselves. We must recognise that this planet is our home
and guard the environment that we are utterly dependent on.
