Cuts at Sheffield College to hit jobless

Dear Sir/Madam

Government ministers are happy to talk about how important adult education
is, but with the cuts at Sheffield College (“Axe to fall on three city learning centres”, Star 21st April), actions speak louder than words. These
cuts will mean that the steadily rising numbers of unemployed will find it even more difficult to gain skills for getting a job, or improve in their
current careers. Sadly, many young people are also amongst the unemployed.
How is it that after being mostly responsible for the recession in the first place, a banker can still be paid a bonus that could create two hundred jobs for people at the start of their working life? Why does this Government spend billions on propping up the banks, without proper guarantees of getting the cash back, and then cuts funding that helps ordinary people better themselves. I’d value a teacher or a builder or a nurse far above
someone paid to juggle money about. I can say for certain the Green Party
won’t just talk, we would limit bankers bonuses and invest in education and
jobs for the ordinary people of Sheffield.
