Statement on Ched Evans from Cllr Jillian Creasy on behalf of the Sheffield and Rotherham Green Party

Councillor Jillian Creasy, leader of the Green Group on Sheffield City Council and Parliamentary Candidate for Sheffield Central constituency, has released a brief statement on Sheffield United Football Club’s decision to allow convicted rapist Ched Evans to return to training with the club:

Ched Evans should be allowed to return to work, but top footballers, and football clubs, are in the public eye and provide an example for the people, including many young men, who look up to them. The Sheffield Green Party calls on Sheffield United Football Club to therefore consider the moral as well as the financial implications of allowing Ched Evans back into the club.
