Focus On…Nether Edge

Over the past couple of years the Nether Edge Ward Group has worked hard to raise the profile of the Green Party. Lots of fund raising has taken place including clothes swaps, quizzes and frequent appearances at the Nether Edge Farmers’ Market and the Abbeydale Cinema car boot sales. As well as raising funds towards election costs these activities have provided the opportunity for us to network with local residents in order to find out what local issues concern them and to explain both National and Local Green Party policies to them in more detail.

The Greens have had input into PACT (Police and communities together) meetings, have been involved with planning applications, have helped refurbish Common Ground, the local community centre, have taken part in litter picks in the beautiful Brincliffe Edge woods and also been involved in getting double yellow lines repainted in Nether Edge village at the request of local traders.  We have representatives on various groups including Friends of Brincliffe Edge woods, Sheffield Climate Alliance and The Abbeydale Corridor Clean Air Group.

In the local election last May the Greens came second behind Labour with a record number of votes in this ward.  Anne Barr received 1417 votes, pushing the Lib Dems into third place.

As the Green surge continues and membership continues to grow on a daily basis, particularly in Nether Edge, the future is looking bright. It is an exciting time to be involved in the Nether Edge Green Party Ward group. You can follow us on Twitter and on the Nether Edge Green Party Facebook page, or to become more involved email Anne at annebarr53@hotmail.com or Calvin Payne, the candidate for 2015 at shefflivecalvin@inbox.com
