Save the Pubs!

Sir,
PloughIt’s great to see The Plough In Crosspool given some protection by being classed by the council as an “asset of community value”. It’s been a pub for around 400 years and is opposite the oldest football ground in the world at Hallam FC.
Communities around Sheffield need to be looking at their historic pubs. Pubs and convenience stores have the same Planning classification so Tesco or Sainsbury’s can walk straight in and open up without needing an application for change of use. It’s happening all over the country and this government is clearly not going to close this loophole. So if your pub has been around for a long time or has a significant history or setting the regulars might want to follow the lead of the successful “Save the Plough” campaign.
Yours
