Jo was one of the 3 Green candidates in the council election on May 5th 2016 in Gleadless Valley ward.
I work part time at a charity in Leeds, at Barnsley Council, and as a freelance journalist. I got involved in the Green Party because I think community is incredibly important. Although not originally from Sheffield – I grew up in Essex and have also lived in Slovakia and Sri Lanka – I’ve learned to appreciate how much difference localised, community campaigning can make. I want to get involved in the issues which affect people on a day to day basis, and improve things for Gleadless Valley and its residents as your ward councillor.
Over the last few years Gleadless Valley has had its fair share of cuts and complications. We’ve seen reduced bus routes, cuts to youth services and volunteer run libraries. We aim to open up the debate about how scarce funds are spent, and look at long term solutions for the benefit of all residents – from Meersbrook to the Gleadless Valley estates.
