Joel GilbertJoel Gilbert is the Green Party candidate for Shiregreen and Brightside ward in the Local Elections on May 7th 2026

Hi, my name is Joel Gilbert, and I am looking to be your new Green councillor for Shiregreen and Brightside this May.

Being local to the area, I care deeply about making this wonderful ward the best it can be. This means working to bring communities together to support local area improvements, whether that be playground equipment or the natural environment, as well as being a strong voice for the ward on the city council, advocating for cleaner streets, safer roads, improved services and better transport links.

My professional life has seen me be a P.E. teacher and a primary school classroom teacher (including in Shiregreen and Brightside), and I have worked with charities and social enterprises in Sheffield to plant more trees on Sheffield’s streets and in our parks. I am currently conducting research on how to make walking and cycling to school easier, safer and more pleasant for children in Sheffield.

More generally, I truly believe we are at a crossroads in politics in this country at the moment. The two traditional main parties are in freefall, and when considering who should replace them, only one party offers hope we can all believe in. Vote Green for Shiregreen and Brightside on May 7th 2026.
