Maia Salman-Lord is running to transform Sheffield into a fairer, greener place to live and work. Read our Green manifesto.

I’m Maia! I’m writing to ask for your support in the May council elections. I live in City Ward, in Highfield. I worked for St Mary’s Community Centre for 8½ years, have been on the local Tenants’ and Residents’ committee for 14 years and brought my children up here. In that time, I’ve run lots of projects aimed at making people’s lives better in the local community.

Working hard all year round

  • I wrote the successful funding bid for new play equipment and landscaping of Duchess Road pocket park.
  • I’ve worked on poverty, mental health awareness and youth unemployment and campaigned against disability benefit restrictions. I’ve developed and managed projects in communities across Sheffield to build community, engage volunteers and reduce food poverty.
  • I am working hard to join your elected Green councillors, Douglas Johnson and Ruth Mersereau, and to follow in the footsteps of Councillor Martin Phipps. We work year-round in community groups, speak to local businesses, knock on people’s doors for a chat, and try to make everyone feel included and heard.

Bringing back hope into politics

Across the country, the Green Party is growing, bringing hope back into politics. Hope means moving towards a politics rooted in integrity, compassion, and action, like we’ve done in Sheffield for over 20 years now.

This local election is about local issues and it’s between Greens and Labour here.

Greens offer a real alternative to Labour. We’re active all year round and achieve real benefits for our residents.

City Ward deserves a future shaped by the people who live here and love this area. Together, we can build it.
