Ruth Abbey is running to transform Sheffield into a fairer, greener place to live and work. Read our Green manifesto.

I’m Ruth Abbey, your local Green candidate for Manor Castle. I’m proud to be standing for election on 7th May. It’s been great meeting so many of you over the last few years and working together on local concerns, such as the too-high cost of living and the loss of local facilities such as playgrounds and green spaces. Here’s what you need to know about me ahead of the election in a few weeks time:

I’ve lived in Manor Castle since 2011, so local concerns are my concerns. I bring my experience of working in the NHS, higher education and Citizens Advice, all of which have made me good at listening and working on behalf of people.

I volunteer at S2 Food Bank, where I work as a debt mentor, helping people to deal with problem debts. I have run a food collection for the last three years, which has collected hundreds of kilograms of food for our most vulnerable residents.

As a Green, I am of course passionate about our environment: if elected, I will work to ensure that Manor Castle’s green spaces are managed to support nature and to provide safe, accessible and welcoming areas for children, young people and adults.

At the last local elections, the Greens came second in Manor Castle. Labour voters have lost faith in Labour after so many broken promises. It’ll be a clear two-horse race between the Greens and Reform this time.
