Brian Holmshaw  is the Green Party candidate for Broomhill & Sharrow Vale ward in the local elections on May 2nd 2024

I have been the Green Party councillor for Broomhill and Sharrow Vale ward since May 2021. In that time I have worked on casework for hundreds of constituents from issues such as road safety when walking to schools to potholes, and private and public housing rental worries to planning concerns.

I work with constituents, community groups and community centres to secure funding for events and projects. For example, Springfield residents, BBEST (Broomhill, Broomgrove, Endcliffe, Summerfield and Tapton) neighbourhood group, Israaq Centre, Broomhall Community Centre, Sunnybank Centre, Broomhill Library and various local friends groups eg Botanical area, Broomhill, Holberry Gardens, Sharrow Vale Residents Association, Endcliffe Triangle, Harcourt Road, Moor Oaks Triangle and Hanover TARA (Tenants and Residents Association).

I was a member of the Planning and Transport Committee for two years till May 2023. I currently Chair the Central Local Area Committee where I have helped fund dozens of organisations and projects.  I am also a member of the Economic Development and Skills Committee and chair of the Allotments Advisory Committee. I recently joined the council’s Cost of Living Strategy Group: working on improving and sustaining the Welcome Places scheme, and improving access to affordable food and to debt advice.

I love the ward of Broomhill and Sharrow Vale. It’s a very interesting and diverse one with lots of community groups. It’s wanting to serve them that keeps me going!
