Councillor Marieanne Elliot is standing for re-election to continue the innovative projects, work and partnerships in Gleadless Valley ward.

I’m Marieanne, I live in Meersbrook with my children and cats, and I share your ambitions and your frustrations for Heeley, Meersbrook and Gleadless Valley. This May, I am standing for re-election and I hope to continue working with my Green colleagues, Alexi Dimond and Paul Turpin. It is a challenging time with successive governments continuing austerity and the rising cost of living – that’s why Greens work in our communities, for our communities, year-round – not just when there is a vote to be won.

Greens offer a different kind of politics – one rooted in hope, integrity, compassion and action. For me, this is a commitment to the place I call home, standing up for people and all our different communities here.

Action Where It Matters

As your Green Councillor over the last four years, I have focused on positive action across our area, such as:

  • Help with Cost of Living: Championing “Income Maximisation”; bringing free face-to-face advice to our community centres in Heeley Green and Newfield Green to help people get lower bills
  • Supporting residents: Casework to help people through homelessness, timely housing repairs and maintenance in Gleadless Valley and more action on street repairs like potholes across the ward.
  • Improving our environment: Acting on issues in parks, woodlands, waterways and highways. Pushing for more spaces for young people, school streets and safe routes to school.
  • Community action: Supporting play streets and yard sales. Collaborating with amazing grass roots organisations on community skip days, river clean ups, girls football in Herdings Park, nature recovery in Meersbrook Park and backing community ambitions for Meersbrook Hall

I am pushing for investment in Gleadless Valley and for solar energy on homes, schools and new leisure centres. I have challenged poor planning applications, spoken out for disabled people and carers, called for ethical investment and championed beaver reintroduction and nature recovery initiatives.

It’s been a real privilege to be your Councillor for the last four years and I hope you will put your trust in me to continue to represent you and our communities. I will, as always, do my best for you.

Thank you
