Gill Black is Membership Officer.
I joined the party in December 2013, after retiring as a senior manager/programme manager in social services. I began attending regular Campaigns and other meetings and am now a coordinator in the Central Ward.
Its been a steep learning curve but I have enjoyed every minute of it. Some of my main tasks are to coordinate canvassing and newsletter delivery. Recently we had 13,000 newspapers delivered to my house which then we had to split into bundles and distribute to individuals and groups of deliverers.
We have about 30 deliverers in Central Ward who each do about 2-3 hours per person per delivery. They do an amazing job often delivering 7 times in the year between Sept and Early May. I am also trying to organise up to 10 polling district coordinators for Central Ward who will be the key to targeted canvassing and other work in specific areas of the Ward.
Green alternatives for the city
My previous role in social services involved working with Housing Associations to improve accommodation for people with learning disabilities as we rebuilt a number of residential homes as supported apartments. I continue to be interested in this area and am involved in developing the Sheffield Green Party policy around housing.
