Ian McHugh is the Green Party candidate for Stannington ward in the local elections on May 5th 2022

9 reasons to vote for Ian McHugh 5th May to be a Green voice for Stannington

  • we need warm, well insulated homes, with affordable heating – and creating these will mean well paid skilled jobs – something I have campaigned for through Green New Deal South Yorkshire
  • we need regular, reliable, cheap public transport – like we used to be famous for in Sheffield! I have been an active member of Better Buses South Yorkshire – and support Bex Whyman’s campaign to boost our buses as a new Green Mayor for South Yorkshire
  • we need to see the extension of Supertram from Malin Bridge to Stannington as originally planned
  • we need to tackle speeding traffic – something I know as a long term road safety campaigner
  • we need safe, well equipped, exciting local play areas – something I know from having two small grandchildren
  • we need community access to meeting rooms like Stannington Pavilion and Knowle Top
  • we need to maintain our local libraries – something I value having campaigned for many years to keep libraries open
  • we need to support local shops and businesses, not allow the closure of Stannington Post Office
  • we need to protect the beautiful landscapes on our doorstep – I am an active member of Friends of Loxley Valley and took the lead in getting a Tree Preservation Order for the trees along High Storrs Lane

The Green council budget proposals for 2022/23 offered a manifesto for council action to address the climate emergency.
