Cllr Angela Argenzio writes:
This year, we said goodbye to two colleagues who decided not to re-stand for election: Martin Phipps and Henry Nottage.
Martin was first elected as a Councillor for the City Ward in 2018, when the Green Group had only 4 members. He has served on the Corporate Parenting Board, Policy Development Committee, Finance and Healthier Communities and Adult Social Care Scrutiny Committees, as well as being the group “whip” for several years.
Martin was a passionate advocate for a healthier city centre with clean air and accessible locations, so it is a place everyone can enjoy. Martin was a “safe pair of hands” and someone you could rely on to stand up for our values in every meeting he attended.
Henry served as a Councillor for the Hillsborough Ward and was elected in 2022. In his 4 years on the Council, he was a member of the Planning Committee and the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Panel.
Henry was part of the Planning Committee that rejected the proposed McDonald’s drive-through on London Road and always stood up for green values in his work on the Council. Henry had a 100% attendance record on the Committees he was a member of and was a great advocate for active travel and public transport.
We will miss them hugely in the Councillor group, and we thank them for their commitment, passion, professionalism and friendship.
