On Sunday, December 11th I grabbed a shovel, found a nearby grit bin and gritted the pavements on Dykes Lane all the way up the steep hill past Malin Bridge school to the shops at the top. I hope this helped people get around safely after snow fell during the 10-day freeze, especially older or vulnerable people nervous about venturing outdoors.
Green councillors continue to push for Amey to grit pavements and cycleways, not just car-only routes. In the meantime, when the next freezing snow situation happens, you may want to collect grit for your pavement area plus nearby households as well.
You can find the location of grit bins and more helpful information by searching for “Winter road and pavement issues” on the council website. Let’s help and support each other through this difficult winter.
